It will emit eight-fold more light than natural moon and will brighten an area between 10 to 80 kilometres. The moon was prepared some two years ago by Chengdu Aerospace Science and Technology Microelectronics System Research Institute (CASC) and will properly be launched in upcoming two years.
Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China, is perhaps best known to Westerners for giant pandas, but the city of 14 million is also one of China’s minor technology hubs, and is home to companies like Foxconn, which manufactures products for Apple.
Chinese engineers applied special coating over mirrors like solar panels which will reflect the light to the city. More details concerning this project is yet to be revealed by the administration of the institution. China is seriously pondering over solidifying its space system.
It is evident from this and other mission that China is planning to take its technology to the next level. In reality, it would take time actualize this dream. The success of this project is yet to be determined. China has already claimed to launch a space mirror of 25 meter but owing to technical issues, it could not.
Fake or artificial moon project of China is intended to conserve energy. It is quite a gargantuan mission and will save electricity if got successful. Energy conservation is the need of hour and with it humans will be able to save it and curtail their dependence over the electricity produced through fossil fuels. Only time will tell how durable and real that idea is.
