IHC directs Zulfi Bukhari to cooperate with NAB in investigation

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday has ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s close friend Zulfi Bukhari to face investigation regarding the issue of placing his name on Exit Control List (ECL).

During the hearing headed by Justice Amir Farooq, representatives of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) appeared. Zulfi’s counsel Sikandar Bashir presented his arguments and said that his client was traveling to Saudi Arabia on a British passport when he was stopped at airport.

Subsequently, the court has directed Imran’s close aide to cooperate with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Earlier, Zulfi Bukhari’s lawyer had said that imposing travel ban on his client is contrary to human rights. He said that Zulfi was first stopped from traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah on June 11, however, he was later given permission for six days. My client’s name was unlawfully put on ECL, he added.

The lawyer said that NAB cannot bar anyone from traveling abroad on an undergoing inquiry and requested the court to withdraw this decision. In an interview, program “On The Front with Kamran Shahid”, Bukhari said that no Black List law exists in the country, adding that he didn’t even know his name was on the Black List.

FIA should be asked as to why my name was included in the list, he said. He went on to say that he is being criticized on social media for the last three days.
